The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) is highlighted in the new issue of Fortune Magazine for its job stimulus. RIDOT was the only state agency to be recognized by the magazine for its efforts in effectively allocating funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). Wellington Hall, a Civil Engineer and Project Manager, is profiled as the first stimulus related employee to be hired by the Department.
Fortune Magazine highlighted several recent new-hires just like Hall, all of whom have obtained employment due to the recent disbursement of stimulus funds. The article, “The Job Squad,” by Telis Demos and Beth Kowitt is available on page 78 in the magazine, as well as on the web with extended interviews and photos. The extended content can be accessed at: http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2009/fortune/0906/gallery.jobs_from_stimulus.fortune/index.html.
“Since October RIDOT has been working diligently to stay on top of the stimulus projects,” said RIDOT Director Michael Lewis. “The Department is pleased to have the additional financial means to be able to hire qualified individuals like Wellington Hall to work with us.”
After graduating from Northeastern University and finding it nearly impossible to obtain employment, Hall started graduate school at The University of Rhode Island. He started an internship at RIDOT in May 2008 as a Traffic Engineering intern. Hall is now one of 89 who have been or will soon be hired by RIDOT through stimulus funding.
