The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) will host the 3nd Annual Engineering Career Day tomorrow, Friday, May 15 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. The session will be held at the University of Rhode Island (URI) Engineering Department in Kirk and Wales Halls in South Kingstown.
The half day program provides a hands-on experiential learning opportunity for high school freshmen and sophomores to try out different areas of engineering including highway design, environmental engineering, and bridge and geotechnical technologies.
Approximately 150 high school students are expected to attend from the following schools: Blackstone Academy Charter School (Pawtucket); Central Falls High School (Central Falls); East Bay Met School (Newport); East Providence Career & Technical Center (East Providence); GAP Program/Talent Development (Providence); Middletown High School (Middletown); Newport Area Career & Technical Center (Newport); Shea High School (Pawtucket); the College Crusade of RI (Providence); and Tolman High School (Pawtucket).
The day is sponsored by RIDOT along with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the URI Transportation Center, the URI College of Engineering, and the Rhode Island Consulting Engineers.
Engineering Career Day is the final event for National Transportation Week which runs this year from May 11-15.
