The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) and 14 Rhode Island formalwear shops have joined forces to discourage underage drinking during prom season. A total of 10,000 tags will be put on tuxedo hangers with the message: “Thinking of drinking this prom season? Don’t let this be your prom picture.”
“Proms should create lifelong happy memories,” said RIDOT Director Michael P. Lewis. “These tuxedo tags will remind prom goers that underage drinking has serious consequences.”
Impaired driving is one of Rhode Island’s deadliest crimes. Approximately half of Rhode Island’s highway fatalities involve alcohol and speed. Nearly 10% of these involve underage drinking.
Formal wear shops approached for this campaign were eager to participate and help relay this important message.
