PROVIDENCE, RI – The State of Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation’s online liquor product label registration service has been named a 2008 Excellence Award winner by the National Electronic Commerce Coordinating Council (eC3). The annual Excellence Awards recognize innovative e-government programs that have produced measurable improvements in the delivery of government services. This year, the winners included five states, one county government and the federal Department of Homeland Security.
Rhode Island’s Certificate of Compliance Product Label Renewal application was recognized in the ‘innovative use of the Web in government management practices’ category. The service allows alcohol beverage manufacturers to fulfill RI regulations that require them to register alcohol products sold within the state. Manufacturers can renew all product label registrations, add new registrations, and remove products no longer being distributed, all through an easy to use online service. The application was developed by the Department of Business Regulation, Division of Commercial Licensing & Racing & Athletics, in partnership with RI.gov, the state’s official Web site and online services provider.
“The online application replaced a time-intensive paper registration process and provided increased efficiencies for everyone involved,” explained A. Michael Marques, Director of the Department of Business Regulation. “I am pleased to have the Department recognized by eC3 for our Web efforts. Electronic efficiencies mean less time dealing with paperwork and more time enforcing the regulations that exist to protect consumers – which we see as our primary responsibility.”
