Governor's Blue Ribbon Panel on Transportation Funding to Host Four-Part Series of Public Meetings, First One to be Held in Lincoln on Monday, September 15

Rhode Island, like many states across the nation, is facing a transportation funding crisis. That is why this past March, Governor Carcieri established the Blue Ribbon Panel on Transportation Funding to explore the State’s current transportation funding structure.

Since its inception, the Panel has been reviewing the State’s transportation funding structure, funding needs, as well as future funding options. The Panel is now looking for public input and is therefore announcing four public meetings that will begin on Monday, September 15. The meetings, which will be held at 7 p.m., will provide the general public the opportunity to voice their opinions on the State’s current funding structure and offer suggestions for improvement.

The Blue Ribbon Panel Public Meeting schedule is as follows:

Schedule:

Monday, September 15, 7 p.m., Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) Flanagan Campus, 1762 Louisquisset Pike, Lincoln.

Wednesday, September 17, 7 p.m., CCRI Newport County, One John H. Chafee Boulevard, Newport.

Tuesday, September 23, 7 p.m., University of Rhode Island (URI), Kingston.

Thursday, September 25, 7 p.m., Rhode Island College (RIC), 600 Mount Pleasant Avenue,

Providence.

Directions to the Blue Ribbon Panel Public Meetings:

CCRI Flanagan Campus: Monday, September 15, 7 p.m.: Lecture Hall 2706

From the North or South on Route 146: Take the Exit to Route 123. Turn left at junction of Routes 123 and 246; continue to Campus entrance.

CCRI/Newport County: Wednesday, September 17, 7 p.m.: Auditorium No. 134

From the Newport Bridge: Remain on the access road headed toward Fall River/Cape Cod (Do not take Scenic Downtown Newport exit). Newport Grand will be directly across from the light at the bottom of the exit ramp. At the light, turn right onto Admiral Kalbfus Road. Upon entering the rotary, take your take your first right onto Connell Highway, and continue for approximately one mile. CCRI is immediately past the Little League field on your right.

From the South: 114 South (West Main Road): Turn right onto Coddington Highway. CCRI is next to the Little League fields on your left.

URI/Kingston: Tuesday, September 23, 7 p.m.: Swan Hall (formerly Independence Hall) Auditorium

From the North: Take I-95 South to Exit 9 (Route 4 South), follow Route 4 to Route 1 South. Stay on Route 1 until the intersection of Route 138 West. Route 138 West will bring you to the University.

From the South: Take I-95 North to Exit 3A (Route 138 East). Continue east on Route 138 to the University.

From Newport: Follow Route 138 West over the Newport and Jamestown bridges to Route 1. Take Route 1 South to Route 138 West. Follow Route 138 West to the University.

Rhode Island College: Thursday, September 25, 7 p.m.: Clarke Science Building Auditorium

From Route 95 Northbound: Take Exit 21 (Broadway exit); turn left at second traffic light (Atwells Avenue). Follow Atwells Avenue for 1.5 miles to the intersection with Mount Pleasant Avenue. Turn right onto Mount Pleasant Avenue. The College entrance is 1.1 miles ahead on the left.

From Route 95 Southbound: Take Exit 21 (Atwells Avenue exit). Turn right onto Atwells Avenue. Continue on Atwells Avenue for 1.5 miles to the intersection with Mount Pleasant Avenue. Turn right onto Mount Pleasant Avenue. The College entrance is 1.1 miles ahead on the left.
