The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) today announced a single-day temporary ramp closure tomorrow, Thursday, September 4, 2008 in connection with the Iway project to allow for paving.
The closure of the ramp from South Main Street to I-195 East is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., after the morning rush hour and before the afternoon commute. RIDOT is installing the final layer of asphalt on the ramp, which opened to traffic last December.
Motorists will be directed to follow a detour using Wickenden, South Main and South Water streets to gain access to I-195 East. Another option, especially for those in the Jewelry District, is to use the temporary on-ramp from Hoppin Street to I-195 East.
RIDOT also has scheduled paving of several streets in the waterfront area on the east side of the Providence River over the next two to three weeks. Motorists on local streets in the area of South Main Street, India Point Park and the Fox Point Hurricane Barrier may experience delays during construction periods.
All work is weather dependent.
