The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) announced today that it will close the on-ramp from I-95 North to I-295 North in Warwick for one night only on Sunday, August 24, 2008 during the overnight hours. The ramp will be partially closed beginning at 10 p.m. and fully closed at 11 p.m.
RIDOT must close the ramp (Exit 11) to allow for the completion of a resurfacing project. Traffic heading onto I-295 from I-95 South will not be affected. The Department is performing this work during the overnight hours when traffic is lightest. The ramp will be reopened by 6 a.m. in time for the morning commute on Monday, August 25.
During the closure, motorists will be directed to use Exit 14B to Route 37 West to I-295 North. The detour is only two miles longer than using Exit 11.
RIDOT will post messages about the detour on fixed signs and on its variable message signs. Trucks that normally follow I-295 to avoid the Pawtucket River Bridge also will be directed to use the detour via Exit 14B.
Motorists seeking access to the Route 2 business district in Warwick should take Exit 10 and follow Route 117 West to Route 2. However, most businesses will be closed during the ramp closure period.
