The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) today announced that is has published its 2007 Annual Report. Copies of it are available online at RIDOT’s Web site at www.dot.ri.gov/news/anreports.htm. The site also contains links to Annual Reports from previous years.
The document covers major projects underway in 2007 including the Iway (I-195 Relocation Project), the Washington Bridge Replacement Project, the Route 403 Relocation Project, the Sakonnet River Bridge Relocation Project, and RIDOT’s efforts toward expanding commuter rail service in Rhode Island. The Annual Report’s text is accompanied by numerous photographs, computer-enhanced imagery, maps, architectural renderings and other graphics.
“RIDOT is committed to completing projects critical to the improvement, enhancement and maintenance of Rhode Island’s transportation infrastructure,” RIDOT Director Michael P. Lewis said. “The breadth of projects and activities the Department is involved with is quite impressive, as one can easily see from reading the 2007 Annual Report.”
The Annual Report has been expanded to be inclusive of all of RIDOT departments. The Report includes information on Rhode Island’s growing bike path network; the Department’s efforts to keep highways clean, well-lit and free of litter; and RIDOT’s efforts to promote highway safety through coordinated efforts to increase seat belt usage and reduce drunk driving. The report also include information on pavement management programs, bridge inspection procedures, contracting procedures, education and training events, RIDOT’s Transportation Management Center, and environmental protection efforts. The Report also covers new technologies and designs RIDOT is exploring, from the use of modern roundabouts to research on new coatings for highway structures.
Last year RIDOT earned national recognition for its 2006 Annual Report. The American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials bestowed a national communications award for the report at its National Transportation Public Affairs Workshop (NTPAW) in Tacoma, Washington on August 9, 2007.
