Children who have had family members or friends battle cancer may have concerns or questions that they did not have the opportunity to ask. An upcoming event at will offer children the chance to talk with doctors, nurses and social workers about cancer treatment.
This is a special event for children of all ages whose loved ones are being treated for cancer now or have been treated before. It will be held at Landmark Medical Center in the Cancer Center on November 6, 2008, 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. There is no cost to attend and this is open to the public. Attendees will tour radiation and chemotherapy treatment areas and have a chance to speak with doctors and nurses who work there. Radiation oncology specialists Timothy Shafman, MD and Maria Appenfeller, RN and Medical oncology (chemotherapy) specialists Ahmed Nadeem, MD and Phyllis Kelliher, RN will show what happens when patients are being treated for cancer. Participants will also be able to see the traveling art show display that is sponsored by Lilly Oncology. Children will be able to create their own art work and can submit the art work for consideration to be included in the 2009 traveling art show.
