Tuna Salad Recall Expanded

Rhode Island Department of Health (HEALTH) advises consumers that a Massachusetts-based company, Home Made Brand Foods, has voluntarily recalled approximately 5,000 pounds of “Ready-to-Eat Tuna Salad”. Routine sampling has identified the potential for contamination with listeria.

Any tuna salad purchased from any retail store between July 26, 2008, and August 10, 2008, should be discarded. The affected tuna salad has an expiration date of August 19, 2008, and was distributed to Stop and Shop Supermarkets and other retail supermarkets and delis. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is working with the company to create a distribution list.

Tuna salad purchased after August 10, 2008 is safe to eat.

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria that can cause symptoms of high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea. Anyone who has eaten one of the above products and is experiencing these symptoms should contact their healthcare provider.
