PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Feb. 29, 2008) -- Secretary of State A. Ralph Mollis urges voters to use his Voter Information Centerto get them in and out of the polls quickly during Rhode Island's March 4 presidential primary.
As is common with Rhode Island's presidential primaries, polling places are often different than they are on Election Day. Rhode Islanders who use the Voter Information Center will be sure to know where to vote on March 4.
Based on a surge in voter registrations and mail ballot requests, Secretary of State Mollis projects turnout could be more than double that of the 2000 presidential primary, which had the heaviest turnout in recent years.
"We worked with the state Board of Elections and local boards of canvassers to craft this plan. Their willingness to partner on this important task is indicative of their ability to rise to the occasion," says Secretary of State Mollis.
To ensure voting goes smoothly on March 4, Mollis developed a plan more ballots, more poll workers and a voter education campaign to prepare Rhode Islanders for the expected turnout.
Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama will face off on Rhode Island’s Democratic ballot. Hugh Cort, Mike Huckabee, Alan Keyes, John McCain and Ron Paul will contend for the Republican nomination. In addition, 184 Rhode Islanders are competing to be a delegate to the Democratic or Republican presidential conventions this summer.
