CRANSTON, R.I. – August 17, 2007 – The Rhode Island Department of Corrections will hold a Project Undercover event on Friday, September 7th, from noon – 1 p.m. on the lawn outside of the main administration building, located at 40 Howard Avenue, Cranston. All RIDOC employees are invited to drop by during this time with a donation of new socks, underwear, or diapers for children up to age 7, and to enjoy refreshments donated by the Sockanosett Crossroad Dunkin’ Donuts and Ronzio Pizza & Subs. In the event of inclement weather, the gathering will take place in the second floor conference room. Members of the community who bring a contribution are welcome to be part of the effort as well.
With approximately 1,500 employees, the RIDOC is one of the state’s largest employers and welcomes opportunities such as this to give something back to the community. “We hope that many of our staff will come out to support this important cause,” notes Corrections Director Ashbel T. Wall II, who will attend the event.
Project Undercover helps 40,000 children living below the poverty level in Rhode Island and its surrounding communities by collecting underclothing for needy children in emergencies. It is a partnership of Girl Scouts of Rhode Island, Inc., and the Rhode Island Donation Exchange Program. Project Undercover honorary co-chairs for 2007 are Patrice Wood of Channel 10 and Child Advocate Jametta Alston.
Individuals who are unable to attend the event but would like to make a donation through the RIDOC are invited to contact event coordinator Tracey Poole, RIDOC’s Chief of Information and Public Relations, at (401) 462-2609 or tracey.poole@doc.ri.gov. Donations will be accepted throughout the month of September.
