Rhode Island General Treasurer Seth Magaziner announced today that Patricia Socarras will join his staff as Deputy Communications Director, effective January 4th.
"Patricia is an accomplished communications strategist with deep roots to the Rhode Island community and a depth of experience working in Rhode Island government," said Treasurer Seth Magaziner. "I know she'll be a strong asset to my team moving forward."
Patricia Socarras has worked in Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza's communications office since 2018, most recently serving as Press Secretary. Prior to that, she worked for Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien, worked on Rhode Island electoral races, and served as a fellow for the Rhode Island Democratic Party. As a grassroots organizer who cares deeply about empowering marginalized voices and realizing social change, Patricia was a 2018 New Leaders Council Fellow and she currently serves as program director of Millennial Rhode Island.
"More than ever, we need to fight for a brighter, more equitable future for our state and I look forward to joining the Treasurer's team to create those changes. This work affects the quality of life of everyday Rhode Islanders and the choices they make. I am incredibly excited to bring those stories to the forefront," said Patricia Socarras. "What's more, it has been a tremendous honor to serve our capital city and I am thankful to have used my voice to represent its people."
In addition to the hiring of Patricia as Deputy Communications Director, the Treasurer announced the promotion of Randy Rice to Senior Advisor, Policy and Communications. Since 2016, Randy has served as Deputy Director, Communications and Shareholder Engagement for the RI Treasurer's office, in which capacity he works with companies in the Pension System's portfolio to adopt stronger corporate governance and sustainable business practices, with the goal of creating long-term value for members of the System.
Prior to joining the Treasurer's office, Randy had a 17-year tenure with Trillium Asset Management, the first investment advisor in the U.S. to focus exclusively on sustainable and responsible investing. Randy also serves on the board of Thundermist Health Center and has volunteered on various leadership teams, including Marriage Equality Rhode Island, and Capital Good Fund, a Providence-based non-profit which uses financial education and services to combat systemic poverty.
