The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) today implemented detours for northbound traffic on the Lonsdale Avenue and Broadway bridges over I-95 in Pawtucket for bridge repair work for the next three months. Southbound traffic over the bridges is not affected.
The work consists of replacing bridge joints, performing concrete repairs, repairing sidewalks and railings, and repaving. Construction is being phased to work on one half of the bridge from now until the end of June. The other half will be done with just a lane shift. Traffic patterns are expected to be restored by the end of the year.
The northbound detours along Lonsdale Avenue and Broadway are as follows:
Lonsdale Avenue Bridge: Turn right onto Comstock Street, left onto Slater Street, left onto Quincy Avenue and follow to return to Lonsdale Avenue. Trucks should continue along Comstock Avenue one more block past Slater Street and turn left onto Main Street, then left to Quincy Avenue and follow it to Lonsdale Avenue.
Broadway Bridge: Turn left onto Blackstone Street, right onto Fountain Street, right onto Central Avenue and follow to return to Broadway.
Detour maps for both bridges are available at www.ridot.net/DetourMaps.
These bridges are part of a $13.7 million bridge preservation project for 11 bridges in Pawtucket and Providence.
All construction projects are subject to changes in schedule and scope depending on needs, circumstances, findings, and weather.
The Bridge Group 03 – I-95 project is made possible by RhodeWorks, RIDOT's ongoing commitment to repair structurally deficient bridges and bring Rhode Island's transportation infrastructure into a state of good repair, promote economic development, and create jobs.
