On Friday, February 7, 2020, Treasurer Magaziner will host approximately 100 students for his third annual "Job Shadow Day". Students from six Rhode Island high schools will have the opportunity to interact with employees at local financial institutions and the Rhode Island Treasurer's Office to learn more about careers in the finance industry.
"As a former teacher, I know that students and educators value opportunities for hands-on learning," said Treasurer Magaziner. "For students who are contemplating a career in financial services, our Job Shadow Day gives them the opportunity to meet with local professionals who can provide insight to possible career paths."
Participating high schools include East Greenwich High School, Juanita Sanchez Educational Complex, North Kingstown High School, North Providence High School, Tolman High School and Woonsocket High School.
Collaborators for "Job Shadow Day" include Centerville Bank, Fidelity Investments, Marstone, Pawtucket Credit Union and TIAA.
Treasurer Magaziner hosted the first "Job Shadow Day" in 2018. The idea was suggested by members of the Rhode Island Financial Empowerment Roundtable; a collaborative group of stakeholders from government, non-profits, education, and business communities which meets regularly to network and share ideas on how to expand financial education and security in the Ocean State.
