Governor Gina M. Raimondo, in accordance with a presidential proclamation, is directing U.S. and Rhode Island flags at all state agencies and buildings to be flown at half-staff on Thursday, October 17, 2019 in memory of Representative Elijah Cummings. The flags will remain at half-staff until sunset on the date of his internment.
"Representative Elijah Cummings was one of our nation's best," said Governor Raimondo. "A civil rights hero, fearless defender of democracy and brilliant political leader, he dedicated his life to the fight for a more just world. His passing is a tremendous loss for us all. My thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones today."
Raimondo also asks Rhode Islanders to lower their flags to half-staff as a mark of respect.
