PROVIDENCE, RI- Governor Gina M. Raimondo signed a proclamation [r20.rs6.net] today celebrating Crossroads RI's 125th anniversary. Crossroads is largely known for their work providing emergency shelter to Rhode Islanders in need, but the organization's impact goes much further: Crossroads is Rhode Island's leading supplier of affordable housing for those experiencing homelessness, runs several of the state's most successful job training programs, partners with organizations that provide health services for low-income Rhode Islanders, and gives refuge to women and families who are survivors of domestic abuse.
"For well over a century, Crossroads RI has been there for Rhode Islanders in need," said Governor Raimondo. "By taking a housing-first, systemic approach to ending homelessness, Crossroads has earned a reputation as one of the nation's best homeless services agencies. As they celebrate 125 years of service, I join Rhode Islanders across our state to say thank you for strengthening our foundation and giving more Rhode Islanders an opportunity to thrive."
Each year, as many as 4,000 Rhode Islanders experience homelessness. The vast majority of those who do are working poor, and many are families with children. Crossroads is one of the state's leading partners to deliver job training, adult education and other transitional services to people in need.

Crossroads RI was founded 125 years ago this month as the Travelers Aid Committee of the YWCA to provide relief to travelers new to Providence and Rhode Island. Governor Raimondo previously served on Crossroads RI's Board of Directors. As a member of the board, she helped launch Crossroads' Women Helping Women initiative and played a major role in establishing Crossroads' Women's Shelter.
