17th Annual CJ Buckley Regatta The CJ Buckley Regatta is an annual event started in 2003 that honors the late CJ Buckley, a talented and avid sailor who passed away from brain cancer as a teenager in 2002. The registration fee monies are used to generate revenue for the scholarship fund, which provides financial assistance to young sailors who demonstrate the ability and the desire to embrace the sport. According to the regatta's website, "many recipients have gone on to sail at the college and international levels and to become coaches and program directors."
The regatta has grown from a small local race to the Club 420 Association's National Junior Team Race Championship for the 9th straight year. There are 24 teams with over 144 sailors and alternates who travel from across the country to participate. The regatta will take place on Monday, July 29, and Tuesday, July 30, at Goddard State Memorial Park in East Greenwich. For more information, please visit http://cjbuckleyregatta.net/.
