PROVIDENCE, RI- Governor Gina M. Raimondo released the following statement today in recognition of Yom HaShoah:
"On Yom HaShoah, we remember one of the darkest periods of our past, a time when six million Jews and millions of others had their lives cut short by genocide. The atrocities they experienced can never be forgotten, and we have a responsibility to keep their stories alive.
"Anti-Semitism and bigotry remain pervasive forces in our nation, as we saw once again this past weekend when a gunman opened fire at a San Diego synagogue. Every person has a right to practice their faith without fear of persecution. Today, we recommit ourselves to that founding principle and renew our promise to fight every day for a safer and more tolerant world."
