Attorney General Peter F. Neronha announced that Aaron Threats (age 23), of Providence, was sentenced yesterday before Providence County Superior Court Justice Robert D. Krause to 25 years after pleading guilty to charges of burglary, assault with a dangerous weapon in a dwelling house, and conspiracy. The charges stem from an October 2017 home invasion in Smithfield.
Under the plea agreement, Threats was sentenced to 25 years with 15 years to serve at the ACI and the remainder suspended with probation for the burglary charge. In addition, Threats was sentenced to 25 years with 15 to serve and the remainder suspended with probation for the assault with a dangerous weapon in a dwelling house charge. Threats was also sentenced to 10 years to serve on the conspiracy charge. The sentences will all be served concurrently.
Had the case proceeded to trial, the State was prepared to show that on the evening of October 17, 2017, Threats and two accomplices broke into a Smithfield home where they proceeded to rob two occupants at gunpoint. Both victims were struck in the head during the burglary, in which a cell phone, car keys, and wallet were stolen.
The case was investigated by the Smithfield Police Department. Special Assistant Attorney General Matthew LaMountain prosecuted the case on behalf of the Office of Attorney General.
