PROVIDENCE, RI - Governor Gina M. Raimondo today released the following statement in honor of Black History Month:
"I'm proud to celebrate Black History Month and honor the black Rhode Islanders who have shaped our state and culture for generations.
The fight for racial equality and justice is as critical as ever. Every Rhode Islander--regardless of their race, or religion, or zip code-deserves a fair shot. As we mark the start of Black History Month today, let us reflect on the progress we've made so far and recommit ourselves to the work that remains.
This month-and every month-we must ensure that we are listening to and uplifting black voices. Diversity has always been our greatest strength, and it is our privilege and duty to uphold that legacy."
