PROVIDENCE, RI - Secretary of State Nellie M. Gorbea is reminding those eligible voters looking to vote by mail ahead of the September 12 primary, that they have until August 22 to file their mail ballot application.
New and of note this year, voters casting their ballot by mail will not have to pay for the postage of their mail ballots thanks to funding allocated in this year's budget by Secretary Gorbea.
"Voters who are unable to head to the polls this September still have options for making their voice heard," Secretary Gorbea said. "Voting by mail is another option eligible voters have to cast a ballot in their local election. And with postage-paid mail ballots, voting by mail comes at no cost to voters."
Voters must fill out a mail ballot application and return it to their local board of canvassers by Wednesday, August 22. The application is available for voters to download at vote.ri.gov or by calling their local board of canvassers. All mail ballots must be received by the State Board of Elections by 8:00 p.m. on September 12.
If an eligible voter misses the mail ballot application deadline, they can vote with emergency mail ballot from their local board of canvassers until 4 p.m. on the day before the election. The State Board of Elections must receive voted emergency mail ballots by 8 p.m. on September 12.

Una novedad este año es que los votantes que envíen sus papeletas por correo no tendrán que pagar el franqueo postal gracias a los fondos asignados en el presupuesto de este año por la Secretaria Gorbea.
"Los votantes que no pueden ir a las urnas este septiembre todavía tienen opciones para votar," dijo la Secretaria Gorbea. "Votar por correo es otra opción que los votantes elegibles tienen para participar en sus elecciones locales. Y con el franqueo pagado, no hay costo alguno para votar por correo."
Los votantes deben completar una solicitud para recibir una papeleta para votar por correo y devolverla a su junta local de elecciones antes del miércoles, 22 de agosto. Las solicitudes están disponibles para descargar e imprimir en vote.ri.gov o llamando a sus juntas locales de elecciones. Todas las papeletas por correo deben ser recibidas por la Junta Estatal de Elecciones a más tardar a las 8:00 p.m. el 12 de septiembre.
Si un votante elegible no presenta una solicitud para votar por correo antes de la fecha límite, puede votar de emergencia yendo a su junta local de elecciones hasta las 4 p.m. el día antes de las elecciones.
