"Today the Supreme Court of the United States voted 5-4 in favor of Ohio Secretary of State John Husted's new process that allows for the purging of eligible voters from Ohio's voter rolls under certain circumstances triggered by not voting.
I am disappointed with the Supreme Court's decision and concerned about its potential to disenfranchise millions of eligible voters across the country. I want to assure voters that Rhode Island does not follow Ohio's "use it or lose it" method- using lack of voting as a reason to remove eligible voters.
Rhode Island serves as a national model for transparency and efficacy in voter roll maintenance. Over the past three years, we have moved to proactively maintain the accuracy of our voter lists while meeting the standards that protect voters under the Voting Rights Act and other federal laws."
