Northbound travelers should expect delays, consider alternate routes
The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) will close multiple lanes of I-95 North tonight, Wednesday, June 6, to repair an area of settled pavement near the Park Avenue overpass in Cranston. Major traffic delays are likely.
Motorists should seek alternate routes, such as I-295, to bypass this area of construction. Route 37 West to I-295 may also be used.
Starting at 9 p.m., RIDOT will restrict travel to two lanes between the Route 37/Jefferson Boulevard interchange (Exits 14-15) in Warwick and the Route 10/Elmwood Avenue interchange (Exit 16) in Cranston. By 11 p.m. only one lane of travel will be open on the right side of the highway. All lanes will reopen by 6 a.m., prior to the morning commute on Thursday.
During the evening and overnight hours, RIDOT will repair an area of depressed pavement located in the center travel lanes. The Department will make the area safe with temporary paving, but also will be performing a number of studies to determine the cause of the settlement.
When the analysis is complete, RIDOT will announce its findings and schedule permanent repairs to prevent the settlement from reoccurring.
