General Treasurer Seth Magaziner today joined a chorus of parents, students, educators, community leaders and lawmakers making the case for a statewide investment in public school buildings to members of the Rhode Island House of Representatives' Finance Committee.
"As a former teacher, I know how hard it is for teachers to teach and students to learn when their school buildings are unhealthy or unsafe," said Treasurer Magaziner. "I also know that we cannot wait any longer to repair and rebuild our schools here in Rhode Island."
"After years of discussion and debate, the time for action is now," continued Treasurer Magaziner. "The longer we wait, the more expensive it will be to repair our school buildings and the more children will be left behind. We have an opportunity to make a once-in-a-generation investment in our schools, and we should bring the bond proposal to the voters this year."
Treasurer Magaziner was co-chair of the Rhode Island School Buildings Task Force which developed a plan to make a major investment in repairing public school buildings across the state. Governor Raimondo has included the Task Force's recommendation in her 2019 budget proposal.
