PROVIDENCE, RI – Today, Lt. Governor Dan McKee issued the following statement in support of Rhode Island's proposed Red Flag Law.
"Keeping guns out of the hands of anyone who exhibits questionable, threatening behavior is a common-sense measure that puts the safety of Rhode Islanders first. I applaud the Rhode Island Association of Police Chiefs, the Governor, House and Senate leadership and the sponsors of the red flag legislation for their prompt action and careful attention to this issue. In light of the tragedy in Parkland and in too many other communities across our country, I urge the General Assembly to pass this legislation swiftly. While we know the red flag policy isn't a stand-alone solution to reducing gun violence, it moves Rhode Island in the right direction toward creating safer, stronger communities."
