Araya Brinkley Sentenced for the Stabbing Death of Troy Henderson

Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin announced that Araya Brinkley (age 54), of Providence, was sentenced today for the May 23, 2015 stabbing death of 41-year-old Troy Henderson of Providence. The State recommended the defendant be sentenced to life in prison. Superior Court Justice Netti C. Vogel sentenced the defendant to 50 years with 23 years to serve and the remainder suspended with probation.

Had the case proceeded to trial, the State was prepared to prove that at approximately 2:30 a.m. on May 23, 2015, Brinkley and Henderson engaged in a verbal argument inside the 7-11 store near Kennedy Plaza. The argument continued outside the store where Brinkley stabbed Henderson 15 times.

After the stabbing, Brinkley sped away on his bicycle, but was apprehended a short time later by a Providence Police officer.

Providence Police Detectives John Primiano and Angelo A'vant led the investigation and Special Assistant Attorneys General Peter Roklan and Michael White prosecuted the case on behalf of the Office of Attorney General.
