Deadline to file claim extended to May 31, 2018
Did you lose money to a scammer who had you pay using Western Union between January 1, 2004 and January 19, 2017? If so, you can ask for money back from a multistate settlement with Western Union. And the deadline to file your claim was just extended to May 31, 2018.
As part of a multistate settlement previously announce by Attorney General Kilmartin, Western Union agreed to return $586 million to people to settle charges that Western Union hadn't adequately protected people from fraud, and didn't properly discipline problem agents.
To file a claim, please visit http://www.westernunionremission.com or call 1-844-319-2124 for more information on how to file a claim. All completed claims forms must be mailed back to the settlement administrator by May 31, 2018. The form will not ask for your bank account or credit card information or seek any payment from victims. Any such request for money or financial information is not from the program and should be reported to our Consumer Protection Unit at 401-274-4400.
"I strongly encourage any and all Rhode Island consumers who wired money using Western Union to a scam artist to file a claim to recoup some of your losses as part of this settlement," said Attorney General Kilmartin.
