Two closure periods scheduled this month
The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) today announced the next set of closures of Route 152 (Newman Avenue) as part of the Newman Avenue Bridge Replacement Project in East Providence for this week.
The closure affects through traffic on Newman Avenue between Pawtucket Avenue in East Providence and Arcade Avenue just past the state line in Seekonk, Massachusetts.
The closure is scheduled to begin at 6 a.m. on Thursday, December 7 and run through 4 p.m. on Friday, December 8. It allows for asphalt removal and installation and grading the new gravel road base.
The following week, paving, guardrail and striping operations will require a bridge closure during daily working hours from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday.
During both closure periods, motorists are advised to follow the recommended detour using the turn-by-turn directions described below. Local access will be maintained. Get detour maps at www.ridot.net/detourmaps .
Eastbound:
- Follow Route 1A/Pawtucket Avenue south
- Stay left for Route 114A/Pleasant Street
- Pleasant Street becomes Fall River Avenue
- Turn left onto Route 44/Taunton Avenue
- Turn left onto Arcade Avenue
- Return to Newman Avenue
Westbound:
