The Council for Economic Education has honored Rhode Island Treasurer Seth Magaziner with the 2017 William A. Forbes Public Awareness Award, recognizing his work to advance financial literacy for student and families.
"My mission is to promote economic growth and financial stability for all Rhode Islanders," said Treasurer Magaziner. "The Council and I share the belief that financial literacy education is critical for students to make better decisions as savers, investors, borrowers, voters, and participants in the global economy. I share this award with the Rhode Island educators, business leaders and non-profits who have made financial literacy a priority."
Treasurer Magaziner serves as chair of the Financial Education and Empowerment Committee of the National Association of State Treasurers, and has launched a series of state-wide financial literacy roundtables in Rhode Island.
"CEE is pleased to honor Treasurer Magaziner and recognize his work to raise awareness of the importance of financial literacy," said Nan J. Morrison, President and CEO of the Council for Economic Education.
Made possible by a gift from the Calvin K. Kazanjian Economics Foundation, the award includes a $1,000 honorarium which was presented directly to the Rhode Island Council for Economic Education.
