"Today, the Rhode Island House of Representatives voted 74-0 to approve Automatic Voter Registration in Rhode Island (H.5702), a bill that will allow eligible citizens to be automatically registered to vote as they interact with the DMV. Automatic Voter Registration will help reduce the bloat in our voter rolls resulting from unintentional, duplicate voter registrations and the potential for voter fraud. I thank House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello, the bill's sponsors Representatives David Coughlin, Jr. and Raymond Johnston, Jr., and the entire House of Representatives for their overwhelming support of this legislation that will further our efforts to modernize elections in Rhode Island."
