PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Governor Gina M. Raimondo today released the following statement, on the day before Christmas Eve and the first day of Hanukkah:
"The holiday season is a time to come together as Rhode Islanders and look to a bright and peaceful future with hope and optimism. We have so many blessings all around us - our friends, our family, and especially those who serve to keep us safe. As my family sits down for Christmas dinner this weekend, I will be incredibly thankful for all who work so hard to give back to our state. And I will be thinking of those celebrating Hanukkah, and the story of perseverance, love, and light.
"We also know that for many of our neighbors, the holidays are a difficult time. I encourage all Rhode Islanders to celebrate and share in the season of giving, to check on each other, and do what you can to make the season a little less lonely and a little more joyful for those in need. There is nothing more special than when we truly come together as a state of all different backgrounds, faiths, and beliefs to be there for one another.
"On behalf of my family and the great state of Rhode Island, I wish you and your loved ones a very Merry Christmas, a Happy Hanukkah, a peaceful holiday season, and happy, healthy New Year."
