DATE: September 3, 2016 SUBJECT: Tropical Storm Hermine
Cranston, RI --- The Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency (RIEMA) is preparing for a Tropical Hermine anticipated to impact Rhode Island over the next couple of days.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Southern New England which projects the storm to make to makes its closest approach to Southern New England early Wednesday morning. The NWS is uncertain how far north Hermine with travel and strengthen. Coastal and marine hazards will be the biggest impacts including high surf, dangerous rip currents, beach erosion, and high winds. Scattered debris and downed power-lines possible.
Expected Rainfall 1 to 2 inched Sunday night through Tuesday with a low probability of 2 to 4 inches. Rain could last until late Wednesday night.
Coastal / Marine High surf and dangerous rip currents from Sunday into Wednesday. High risk for rip currents across beaches beginning late today lasting into the middle of next week. Easterly wind gusts to 45 kts and seas building to 15 to 20 ft over southern waters Sunday into early Monday.
Travel Conditions Tropical Hermine could impact holiday travel. Continue to monitor travel outlets for updates.
