Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin today announced that the Office of Attorney General (RIAG) has approved, with conditions, the proposed affiliation between LMW Healthcare (Westerly Hospital) and Yale-New Haven Health Services Corporation.
RIAG accepted an application from the parties for an expedited review on June 11, 2016 and held a public informational meeting concerning the affiliation on August 2, 2016. Under the Hospital Conversions Act, the Attorney General has 90 days to review and issue a decision on an expedited application.
"This is the second time in three years my office has reviewed a sale of Westerly Hospital, which I believe is representative of the continuing shift in the healthcare landscape from stand-alone community hospitals to larger healthcare networks. Westerly Hospital plays a very important role in the community, both in terms of delivering excellent healthcare services and as an economic engine. The affiliation with Yale-New Haven Health Services will ensure the hospital continues to play that role," said Attorney General Kilmartin. "I commend the transacting parties for their efforts in providing our team with the necessary information to make this decision within the expedited timeframe of 90 days."
