The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) recently completed the realignment of the intersection of Route 3 (Nooseneck Hill Road) and Route 102 (Victory Highway) in the Town of Exeter, with a goal of increasing safety and making it easier for drivers to navigate. A new traffic pattern for motorists when driving through the area is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, August 2.
The safety improvements made by this project include the construction of a new, standard T-intersection where Route 3 and Route 102 intersect, removing the former traffic island and unique cross-over traffic movements, installing a new traffic signal, and resurfacing the roadways immediately surrounding this intersection. The storm water drainage system has been upgraded to better accommodate the new roadway geometry.
The project work also includes the installation of new landscaping where the former roadway once existed. The aesthetic plantings, including maple trees and other shrubs, were selected in coordination with the Rhode Island Scenic Roadways Board, as Route 102 is a scenic roadway. These improvements, with a construction cost of $750,000, were part of a larger $2.4 million project which includes a budget contingency of $80,000.
