Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin announced that Juan Silva, age 37, of Woonsocket, pleaded nolo contendere today before Superior Court Justice Kristin E. Rodgers to one count of first degree sexual assault, one count of second degree child molestation, and one count of second degree child abuse.
Under the terms of the plea, the defendant was sentenced to a total of 25 years, with 10 years to serve and the remainder suspended with 25 years probation. In addition, the defendant was ordered to undergo sex offender counseling, and must comply with the States' sex offender registration and community notification statute. In addition, the Judge ordered the defendant to have no contact with the victims.
Had the case proceeded to trial, the State was prepared to provide that Silva sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl, molested an 11-year-old girl, and physically assaulted a nine-year old boy on three separate occasions. The victims were known to the defendant.
Woonsocket Police Detective Ron Marcos led the investigation. Special Assistant Attorneys General Ania Zielinski and Bethany Laskowski prosecuted the case on behalf of the Office of Attorney General.
