A Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) resurfacing project is now underway on 1.64 miles of Woonasquatucket Avenue, from Grover Street to Fruit Hill Avenue, in Providence/North Providence. The project is currently slated for completion in late Fall 2016.
Through a $3.4 million contract with a budget contingency of $520,000, the project includes bringing existing sidewalks into Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance, adding new curbing, signing and striping, and making some minor drainage improvements.
Motorists will experience daytime lane closures, through an alternating one-way traffic pattern, with typical operations taking place weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. There is also the possibility for temporary detours during drainage work. Additionally, RIPTA Bus 27 is temporarily detoured from Woonasquatucket Avenue to nearby Fruit Hill Avenue. See www.ripta.com/detours-news for more information.
