Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin announced that Kimberly Shaw, age 41, with a last known address of 60 Olive Street, Pawtucket, pleaded nolo contendere before Superior Court Justice Kristin E. Rodgers on Tuesday to four counts of first degree child molestation.
Under the terms of the plea agreement, Shaw was sentenced to a total of 40 years, with 18 to serve and the remainder suspended with probation. In addition, Shaw is ordered to have no contact with the two victims, ordered to undergo sex offender counseling, and must comply with sex offender registration and notification statutes. Shaw was also ordered to have no unsupervised contact with children under the age of 16.
Had the case proceeded to trial, the State was prepared to prove that Shaw molested two boys, to whom she was related, over a period of three years. The boys disclosed the abuse to their father and stepmother, who reported it to police.
"The abuse of a child is one of the most heinous crimes there is, and the molestation of a child at the hands of someone who should protect them from harm is even more abhorrent," said Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin. "The victims in this case showed tremendous strength and courage in coming forward, and I hope that today's sentence brings them some comfort in knowing that justice was served."
Pawtucket Police Detectives David Silva and Donti Rosciti led the investigation. Special Assistant Attorneys General Alison DeCosta and Kate C. Brody prosecuted the case on behalf of the Office of Attorney General.
