"I am excited that the Rhode Island Department of State has been awarded a $35 thousand grant from the Knight Foundation's Knight Prototype Fund to explore new and innovative ways to increase voter participation among younger Rhode Islanders. The Rhode Island Department of State is dedicated to engaging and empowering all Rhode Islanders, and that includes getting them involved in the electoral process. In 2014, only 17% of RI voters ages 18 to 29 turned out to vote compared to the national average of 21.5%. This grant, one of twelve early-stage grants announced by the Knight Foundation today, will help us get more young Rhode Islanders involved."
