Last Wednesday, April 29, Secretary of State Nellie M. Gorbea invited Rhode Islanders to choose a cover design for the new Rhode Island Government Owner's Manual, a comprehensive guide to local and state government published biannually by the Rhode Island Department of State. More than 500 Rhode Islanders participated in the online poll.
Rhode Islanders who clicked on voteformycover.com were asked to choose from six possible cover designs featuring images by renowned photographers Richard Benjamin and Warren Jagger. The online poll was closed on Monday, May 4, at 8 PM. More than 500 Rhode Islanders voted. The winning cover, featuring a sunset vista of the Rhode Island State House dome, received 34% of the vote.
"As Secretary of State, I am committed to engaging and empowering all Rhode Islanders. This contest is a fun way to get people to participate," Gorbea said. "I want to thank the hundreds of Rhode Islanders who voted, and congratulate Richard Benjamin for his extraordinary photograph."
The Rhode Island Government Owner's Manual will be released later this month. Five thousand copies are printed and distributed through state and local government offices, and public libraries, in all 39 cities and towns. For more information visit us online at http://www.sos.ri.gov.
