Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin announced that today a secret indictment was unsealed in Providence County Superior Court charging Bruce Moten (age 25), Tevin Briggs (age 21), and Antonio Fortes (age 25) for the October 22, 2014 shooting in Providence that resulted in the death of Terry Robinson. All three defendants are charged with one count of murder, three counts of discharge of a firearm while in the commission of a crime of violence, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, two counts of carrying a firearm without a license, and one count of conspiracy.
The indictment was unsealed when Tevin Briggs, of Cranston, pleaded guilty to all counts before Superior Court Justice Robert D. Krause. He will be sentenced at a later date.
Had the case proceeded to trial, the State was prepared to prove that on October 22, 2014, Tevin Briggs, Bruce Moten, of Providence, and an unnamed co-conspirator, all members of the YNIC criminal street gang, were driving around Providence looking for members of rival Chad Brown street gang. Antonio Fortes, of Providence, called and alerted the other defendants that he had spotted members of the Chad Brown gang inside a black Camry located at a convenience store near the Chad Brown housing projects.
Finding the black Camry in a parking lot on Fillmore Street, defendants Moten and Briggs, both armed with guns, walked towards the motor vehicle and fired at the passengers as they fled from the scene on foot.
A bullet struck Delacy Andrade in the buttock and a bullet struck Terry Robinson in the head causing his death. The third individual was not struck.
The defendants ran back to their motor vehicle being driven by the unnamed co-conspirator and fled to a house located on Tappan Street in Providence, where they hid the guns used in the shooting. The firearms used in the shooting have not been recovered.
Moten and Fortes are currently incarcerated for independent offenses. They are scheduled to be arraigned in Providence County Superior Court before Superior Court Justice Robert D. Krause on May 1, 2015. Briggs has been held without bail since he was arrested in January on independent firearms charges. A warrant has been issued for the unnamed co-conspirator.
Providence Police Detective Christopher Currier and Sergeant Fabio Zuena, with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms and Tobacco Special Agent Ed Troiano, led the investigation. Assistant Attorney General John Moreira and Special Assistant Attorney General Jeffrey Morin prosecuted the case on behalf of the Office of Attorney General.
