North Smithfield residents will vote in a Special Election this summer to fill a vacancy on that community's five-member Town Council. Candidates for the position must officially declare their intention of running for office on Thursday, April 23, or Friday, April 24, 2015.
Secretary of State Nellie M. Gorbea is reminding potential candidates for the North Smithfield Town Council Special Election that they must file a declaration of candidacy form in order to be eligible to appear on the ballot.
Any person who is currently an eligible voter in North Smithfield can declare their candidacy for the open seat. A declaration of candidacy form is the document a person signs to start the process of becoming a candidate. The form is available at the North Smithfield Board of Canvassers, One Main Street, Slatersville. The form may also be downloaded from the Department of State's website: www.sos.ri.gov/elections.
The completed form must be turned in Thursday, April 23 or Friday, April 24, 2015, to the North Smithfield Board of Canvassers.
The Special Election will take place on July 7. If more than two candidates qualify for the ballot, a Primary Election would be held on June 2.
