Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin today announced that the Office had reached a settlement agreement with the State Properties Committee for violations of the Open Meeting Act for failure to post the minutes of several meetings as prescribed by RIGL ยงยง 42-46-7(d). Under the terms of the settlement agreement, the State Properties Committee agreed to pay $5,000.
The lawsuit was the result of a complaint filed with the Office of Attorney General by Ken Block in 2014. In its finding, Block v. Rhode Island State Properties Committee, OM 14-16, the Office of Attorney General found that the State Properties Committee violated the OMA on five occasions. In a supplemental finding, the Office alleged the State Properties Committee had committed a willful or knowing violation and subsequently filed a lawsuit in Providence County Superior Court on July 11, 2014.
