Secretary of State Nellie M. Gorbea announced today that there will be a special election in House District 33 to fill the seat of former State Representative Donald J. Lally, Jr. on Tuesday, June 9, 2015. House District 33 includes parts of Narragansett and South Kingstown.
"I appreciate Representative Lally's service to the people of Rhode Island and look forward to giving the voters of House District 33 the opportunity to elect a new representative," Secretary Gorbea said. "We are working closely with the Board of Elections and the Narragansett and South Kingstown Boards of Canvassers to ensure that the election goes smoothly."
State law authorizes the Secretary of State to order a special election to fill a vacancy. The declaration period for the special election will take place on Thursday, March 26, and Friday, March 27, 2015. A special Primary election will take place on May 5 if more than one candidate from either party qualifies for the ballot.
