PROVIDENCE, R.I. - In light of the forecasted winter storm, Governor Gina M. Raimondo announced that state offices will be operating under the adverse weather policy tomorrow between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The Governor is coordinating closely with state agencies and National Grid to monitor the storm and prepare for Rhode Island to respond.
"I'm urging Rhode Islanders again to take caution during the Monday commute," said Raimondo. "Forecasters are predicting the most snowfall right before the morning commute, so the roads will be messy - everyone should plan for extra time and drive slowly. Please remember to check on your loved ones and neighbors, and to watch closely for updates on school closures and parking bans. I also want to encourage all businesses to be flexible with their employees - safety continues to be our number one priority."
The adverse weather policy issued for Monday means non-essential state employees who are scheduled to work during this time -- and who are unable to report for work (or who wish to report late or leave early) -- may discharge annual leave, personal leave, or leave without pay and must notify their supervisor in accordance with their division's procedures.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning, which will be in effect until 1 a.m. Tuesday. Forecasters are predicting up to 12 inches of snow in parts of Rhode Island.

Safety & Preparedness Reminders:
The heaviest amounts of snow are expected in northeast Rhode Island. When shoveling, remember to take frequent breaks to avoid overexertion.
Keep fire hydrants clear of snow.
Check on your neighbors and loved ones to make sure they are prepared for cold weather and snow.
Make sure generators are operated away from the home and in a well-ventilated area to avoid the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Plan long trips carefully, listening to the news/media for the latest weather forecasts and road conditions.
Make an emergency supply kit for your vehicle, in addition to the emergency supply kit for your home. Include a shovel, jumper cables, and a bag of sand.
Keep your gas tank full.
Install good winter tires with adequate tread.
Check your windshield wiper fluid.
