Voters in Central Falls' fifth City Council ward will participate in a non-partisan primary this Thursday, February 5, and Secretary of State Nellie M. Gorbea urges all eligible voters to vote.
"I am committed to ensuring that every Rhode Islander who is eligible to vote has every opportunity to do so," Gorbea said. "The Central Falls special election is a great opportunity to get involved in the democratic process. I encourage the residents of Central Falls to show that you are a "comeback city" and are engaged in your government by going to vote. Special elections are historically low turnout elections. Your vote really does matter, particularly in small, special elections."
The city will open two polling places for this primary: the Captain Hunt School, 12 Kendall Street, and the Knights of Columbus Hall, 20 Claremont Street. Polls will open at 7 a.m. and will close at 8 p.m. Any eligible voter in line when the doors close at 8 p.m. will be allowed to cast a ballot. There are four candidates participating in this non-partisan primary. They are: Thomas Lazieh, Carlos Monzon, Lorraine Savard and Kenneth Vaudreuil. The two top voted candidates will face off in an election to be held on Thursday, February 19.
Voters will be asked to show a valid photo ID when they vote at the polls. Poll workers will accept: RI driver's license, US passport, ID card issued by an educational institution in the US, US military ID card, RI state or federal government-issued ID card and RI Voter ID card.
Voters who do not bring an acceptable photo ID to the polls can vote using a standard Provisional Ballot. If the signature they give at their polling place matches the signature on their voter registration, their ballot will be counted.
