The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) is asking motorists to slow down and drive with care today and into tomorrow.
Crews are out handling a variety of conditions right now, from snow in some areas to sleet and freezing rain in others. Pavement temperatures continue to drop, and areas that are wet may freeze over as the storm changes over to snow later tonight.
The Department will continue to treat and plow the roads throughout the evening, but some of the materials may be washed away by the precipitation. That, combined with an increase in traffic that is limiting the number of passes our trucks can make, may result in slippery conditions.
Drivers should buckle up, reduce their speed and give plenty of room for plows and sanders to do their work. For winter driving tips and links to traffic cameras and our up-to-the-minute Twitter feed, visit www.dot.ri.gov/winter.
