Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin today announced that Ashner "Pookie" Alexis, age 19, of 12 Longfellow Street, Pawtucket, was found guilty by a jury for his role as the shooter in the February 4, 2014 murder of George Holland, Jr. The verdict was returned in under two hours after a seven day trial before Superior Court Justice Robert D. Krause. Alexis was found guilty of 1st degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and use of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence death resulting.
During the course of the trial, the State proved beyond a reasonable doubt that Alexis was the shooter in the Holland murder. On February 4, 2014, after obtaining a shotgun from Anthony Moore; Alain Bedame, Ashner Alexis, Seydina Ndoye and Robert Winston drove from Woonsocket to the area of 145 Colfax Street in Providence. Alexis and Winston exited the vehicle and walked to the front of house, where Alexis instructed Winston to knock on the window, which had its blinds drawn. The shadowy outline of a person appeared at the window, and Alexis fired the shotgun, striking and killing 17-year old George Holland, Jr.
Co-defendants Bedame, Ndoye and Winston have previously pled to their role in the homicide and are awaiting sentencing. Anthony Moore was found guilty in October 2014 of murder, conspiracy to commit murder and use of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence death resulting.
Providence Police Detective Kenneth Court led the investigation. Assistant Attorney General Daniel Carr Guglielmo and Special Assistant Attorney General Terence Coyne prosecuted the case on behalf of the Office of Attorney General.
Alexis remains held without bail pending sentencing.
