The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) has announced that the Kent Dam Spillway Bridge in Scituate is scheduled to reopen to traffic by mid-day tomorrow, Thursday, November 6, 2014. At the same time, RIDOT will also reopen a portion of Route 12 (Scituate Avenue), from Route 116 to Howard Avenue, closed since the bridge rehabilitation project began back in March of this year.
Through a $2.7 million contract with Manafort Brothers, Inc., RIDOT rehabilitated the Kent Dam Spillway Bridge. Located at the west end of the Gainer Dam, the bridge was in a state of advanced deterioration and required rehabilitation of its arches and foundation. Updates were also made to the bridge deck, sidewalk and drainage system. Crews also widened and repaved Route 12 at the bridge, while also replacing its curbing and guardrail, and making some minor drainage improvements.
