The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is accepting applications for the upcoming heating season. In partnership with the federal government and local Community Action Program (CAP) agencies, the Department of Human Services administers LIHEAP to help Rhode Island families cope with the high cost of home energy bills during the winter.
"This program has been invaluable for Rhode Islanders during the wintertime," said Sandra M. Powell, Director of the Department of Human Services. "With fluctuations in temperature and fuel prices, it can sometimes be difficult for households to manage their energy costs, and LIHEAP is a big help in this regard. By partnering with Community Action Program agencies, the Department of Human Services is able to get these funds to those who need it."
This program is available to households with income of less than 60% of the state median income. Rhode Islanders may apply for LIHEAP by contacting their local Community Action Program agency. Visit the Rhode Island Community Action Association website at www.ricommunityaction.org to find local CAP information, or visit the Department's website at www.dhs.ri.gov to learn more about LIHEAP.
